This hard to find 30 gauge soft copper sheet is a great hobby & crafts.  It cuts with a scissors & folds easily, ideal for copper sheathing & for detailed craft metal projects. It also works well for embossing and tooling. It takes heavier working & deeper detail than foil. It holds its shape better. RAW METAL DEFINITIONS & TERMS

 

Bulk Metal :   Our cut to length bulk hobby & craft metals provides what is needed at a good value. Our cuts of art metal are generously long & approximately square. Metal by the running foot or yard is shipped in one length whenever possible. We use this metal to craft our own creations.

 

Most sheet metal is shipped in a roll. If necessary ripples or curves can be flattened by rolling it with a smooth rolling pin or plastic pipe section on a completely smooth surface such as a countertop, smooth wood or heavy glass table. It also can be rolled slightly the other way to flatten.

 

Grades:  These solid metals are of an especially pure high grade for fine craft work. All of It is solderable except aluminum..

               New Craft Metal has a bright rolled satin finish. It may have some very slight manufacturing ripples, scratches & color variations.                

 

              Reclaimed -Recycled metal: This unused older metal has scratches, finger prints, ripples and/or dents. Some is shiny and and some has patina from age. It is all very usable at a good price. We use this metal in our own creations.

 

Gauges or Thickness: The lower the gauge number the thicker the metal. For example 23 gauge sheet metal is more than twice as thick as 30 gauge. See below for gauge charts.

 

Hardness: Basically how easy it is to bend or work:

             Soft is pliable yet holds up for folding and hammering. Thicker metal bends less easily than thin.

             Medium Hard is stiff, bends less easily and holds is shape better in larger pieces

 

 

FINISH: Our raw/bare metals can be buffed up after a piece is completed.  More information on METAL

PATINA: All the metals we offer are raw with no wax or varnish and will gain an aged patina over time. Patina solutions (available at most hardware stores) can be used to speed the aging process. More about Patina

 

CAUTION :HANDLE WITH CARE , Raw metals have sharp edges. Rolls and coils are tightly wound and may spring open. They are not for use by children .   Our metals are sold only for craft work; and they are not tested nor certified safe for electrical nor electronic uses, nor home construction nor internal consumption, and they are not certified for food service. (Yes folks some actually ask if they can eat this craft metal!)

GAUGE Charts

for copper sheet & wire:

Gauge Is thickness. The higher the gauge number the thinner the metal.

 

The 23 gauge copper sheet is heavy - traditionally used for roofs and range hoods, also known as: architectural sheet metal. It is known as "one pound copper sheet" as it weighs about one pound per square foot. It will last hundreds of years.

 

The Extra heavy 21 gauge copper sheet is our heaviest/ stiffer copper .(It is 21% heavier than the 23 gauge )  It cuts with a tin snips and holds its shape when bent. It is noticeably thicker and stiffer. Great for larger sculptures.

 

Anything thicker in sheet is in the area of metal plate. It is difficult to bend and can not be cut with tin snips. A cutting torch or saw is used to cut this. We do not offer plate metal for this reason, we carry only the sheet metals shown.

The gauge thickness of craft metals is approximate to this chart but as close as possible for sculpture and craft work where price is more of a consideration than scientific precision from length to length.

 

The 30 gauge copper sheets are a great hobby & crafts metal. It cuts with a scissors and can be folded easily by hand. And we are one of the few copper suppliers to carry this thickness for metal craft . It is great for garden copper markers.
