- This fine antique watercolor box by
Winsor & Newton was made around 1863.
-
- The tray has 24 slots for their fine
half pan size watercolor paint blocks.
- This box has mostly
Winsor Newton paint blocks ,
- plus an antique
gold leafed Chinese ink stick.
- Some of the antique
paint blocks are nearly whole
- while others are
cracked used.

- Also original is the five well porcelain
palette with the Winsor Newton logo on the back and the water
glass of Winsor Newton design.

- In addition there are items of the
same period:
- a few pieces of Conte'
crayons: white, black and brown.
- a paper with notes on
color use.
- a Key that works the lock
- though probably a period replacement,
- the wide wash brush is
high quality and appears serviceable.
- and a few odd items.
- a fine brush rest of bone.
- There are two brushes but they are
probably newer replacements.

- This is a wonderful
Victorian Paint kit with two trays the paint and the pallet that
lift out to reveal storage space for pencils and supplies.

- The bottom drawer
opens to reveal several items and is a good place to store small
sketch paper.
- The whole outer
box is made of solid Mahogany- the inside is fitted with boxwood.

- There is some
mottling & rippling on the top of the box and a few paint
stains here and there inside; all lending authentic character
to this 140 or so year old antique.

- A beautiful Trade
card in the top of the box announces that they have a royal "seal
of approval"

of art history & a wonderful gift for an artist!

- Everything is
as shown in photos.
- It measures 10 3/4 inch
wide x 5 7/8 Deep x 2 3/4 high.

- Some paint blocks are
nearly whole but most show patina of age, cracks , partial blocks
etc.

- The protective banding
on the top edge of the box has some cracks and has variations
in color..

- This box has patina from
use, some scratches, nicks and paint stains here and there.

- All serve to give it authentic
patina. A wonderful box , lovingly used by the artist.
There are no returns

and that it does not say Ltd. which happened later in 1863
