Hand Made Vellum Papers:
By WHATMAN & J B GREEN
These exquisite vellum papers were hand made with cotton & linen from around 1945 to 1959.
Vellum / parchment papers were made as a substitute for animal hide parchments.

When wove paper was introduced in England and France in the late 1700's it was so fine and smooth it became known as paper vellum- originating in France as the term "Paper ve'lin".

Paper Vellum also known as vegetable parchment has distinct advantages : evenness of surface for delicate work and lower cost than animal parchment for producing books.

These rare papers have an exquisitely smooth hot pressed texture. The thinner ones are semi transparent. They are sized for watercolor or ink. The weight is range from 60 to 110 pound The buff colors vary slightly from piece to piece.
