Writing & Water Color Box from the 1850s

Robertson of London
Writing and Watercolor Paint Box

A BEAUTIFULLY HAND MADE SOLID WALNUT BOX FROM THE 1850'S

This brass bound campaign style box is a treasure with its gothic brass "Bat Wing" corners,
& fittings. The brass handles swing out to transport this gem.
The cartouche centered on the top has never been engraved.

The box contains
  • A Robertson palette,
  • Several original Robertson Paint Blocks ,and a number of others by other companies including a partial Chinese ink stick
  • A stick of red sealing wax -used to seal letters. (partially used)
  • Some Water and Ink wells (probably of a later date)
  • A working lock with Key (though it is worn and now loose in the lock)
  • There are a couple of pencils and an ink nib, and a later Victorian pencil led holder
  • Several pieces of hand made vellum paper of a later date- probably by the Whatman co.

Size: approx. 12 7/8" wide x 9 5/8" deep x 4 15/16" high

This box has patina from use, some scratches, nicks and paint stains here and there.

All serve to give it authentic patina. A wonderful box , lovingly used by the artist.
