Jewelers bronze wire Gold color: matching our jewelers bronze sheet.
This special alloy of Copper and Zinc is made to create a 14k gold colored metal for craft and jewelry. This wire matches our Jewelers bronze sheet.
This medium soft bare bass wire is bendable by hand. The thicker 12 & 14 gauges wire is stiffer than the thin wire & pliers will help in bending.

Although brass is a bit stiffer than the same thickness of copper; it holds its shape better.

Polishing Cloths & Metal cutting tin snips

OFFSET SNIPS
Left & Straight cut
If I could have one metal cutting snip this would be the one.

These snips have the handles offset upwards- keeping your hands above the metal making cutting easier, with less fatigue.

They are ideal for long straight & curved cuts especially on larger pieces.

They are best quality we know of for craft work. This is the brand we have used for almost all our work for 24 years. Made in USA by Midwest Tool & Cutlery Co.

Heavier duty than our other snips. These snips cut 30,24,23 & 21 gauges of soft copper, brass and aluminum. Cutting soft 18 gauge copper & brass will take some force - we do it all the time but it takes strong hands (These snips will not cut thicker plate metal)

The grips make cutting more comfortable. They have a spring to return back to the open position, making working with them easier. Comes with lifetime warranty against defects.

Offset Sheet Metal Snip: $32
Plus $3 shipping & handling SHIPS PRIORITY MAIL
Caution: beware of the sharp blades. These are not for use by children. Do not cut wire with these snips as it ruins the smooth cut & voids warranty.See our information on Cutting Metal Sheet and Wire

Sheet Metal Shears for
Thin Metal & Foils:

These shears are great for detailed work in cutting thin sheet metal - tooling metal & foil.

Ideal for 30, 36 , 37, 38 or thinner gauges of copper, brass and aluminum.

This will not cut thicker metal- such as 23 or 24 gauge, cutting thicker than 30 gauge may break the shears. For thicker metal see our METAL Tin/ Aviation SNIPS for Sheet metal.

The hardened stainless steel blades have a 3 inch depth of cut. Overall 8 1/2 inches long. Quality made for fine craft work.

JEWELERS BRONZE & YELLOW BRASS
SHEET METAL INFORMATION:

These special alloys of Copper and Zinc are made to resemble gold for craft and jewelry.

The combination of metals (alloy) gives them golden color and makes them tarnish less. They are also slightly harder & stiffer than copper.

The term Bronze is quite often used interchangeably with brass depending on its alloy.(mixture of metals) All of our sheet metal & wire is Lead Free. But be careful some other suppliers brass and bronze have lead in them.

THICKNESS:
The thick 24 gauge sheet is a heavy weight just right for a range of craft work.  It easily cuts with a tin snips ,aviation snips or saw. The thick 20 gauge is .020 inch thick or 20 Mil thick.

The 30 gauge is a medium thickness & is soft.   It is easy to work with: it cuts with a scissors and can be embossed. It is great for detailed craft from jewelry to holiday ornaments.   For embossing It takes deeper detail than our foil and and holds its shape better allowing it to be made into 3 D objects. Medium thick 30 gauge is .010 thick or .25MM Thick or 10 Mil thick approximately.

The 36 gauge YELLOW BRASS is a thin foil that is the traditional thickness for embossing and tooling. It also makes lightweight ornaments and decorations. Though considered a foil it is many times thicker than aluminum kitchen foil.
Jeweler's bronze sheet was created by jewelers to be the exact color of high karat gold. It is also known as Merlin's gold, rich low, or red brass has a richer gold color which matches our jewelers bronze/ brass wire closely. It is softer. It is an alloy of 85% copper and 15% zinc. It is called Alloy #230 Shown at Right Jewelers Bronze sheet metal- it brighter longer than yellow brass.

Yellow brass sheet has a light bright gold color. It is slightly stiff. It is an alloy of 70% copper and 30% zinc. It is called Alloy #260                                     Shown at left Yellow Brass
The 36 gauge YELLOW BRASS is a thin foil that is the traditional thickness for embossing and tooling. It also makes lightweight ornaments and decorations. Though considered a foil it is many times thicker than aluminum kitchen foil.

RAW METAL DEFINITIONS & TERMS
Brass is an alloy of copper, zinc and sometimes other metals. The combination of metals gives brass its golden color and makes it tarnish less. It also is harder & stiffer than copper.

Bronze is an alloy of copper, tin, sometimes zinc and other metals and quite often used interchangeably with brass. It can also look just like copper if it has a high copper content.

Bulk Metal :   Our cut to length bulk hobby & craft metals provides sizes needed at a good value. Our cuts of art metal are generously long & approximately square. Metal by the running foot or yard is shipped in one length whenever possible. We use this metal to craft our own creations.

Most sheet metal is shipped in a roll if more than one foot wide or long. If necessary ripples or curves can be flattened by rolling it with a smooth rolling pin or plastic pipe section on a completely smooth surface such as a countertop, smooth wood or heavy glass table. It also can be rolled slightly the other way to flatten.

Grades:  These solid metals are of an especially pure high grade for fine craft work. All of It is solderable except aluminum..

New Craft Metal has a bright rolled satin finish. It may have some very slight manufacturing ripples, scratches & color variations.  All metal is new unless on our Recycled/ Reclaimed Metal page.

Reclaimed -Recycled metal: This unused older metal has scratches, finger prints, ripples and/or dents. Some is shiny and and some has patina from age. It is all very usable at a good price. We use this metal in our own creations. For these metals see our page: Recycled/ Reclaimed Metal

Gauges or Thickness: The lower the gauge number the thicker the metal. For example 23 gauge sheet metal is more than twice as thick as 30 gauge. See below for gauge charts.

Hardness: Basically how easy it is to bend or work:
Soft is pliable yet holds up for folding and hammering. Thicker metal bends less easily than thin.
Medium Hard is stiff, bends less easily and holds is shape better in larger pieces

FINISH: Our raw/bare metals can be buffed up after a piece is completed.  More information on METAL
CRAFT HOW-TO : Cleaning, cutting, forming, soldering & finishing

PATINA: All the metals we offer are raw with no wax or varnish and will gain an aged patina over time. Patina solutions (available at most hardware stores) can be used to speed the aging process. More about Patina

CAUTION :HANDLE WITH CARE , Raw metals have sharp edges. Rolls and coils are tightly wound and may spring open. They are not for use by children .

Our metals are sold only for craft work; and they are not tested nor certified safe for electrical nor electronic uses, nor home construction nor internal consumption, and they are not certified for food service. (Yes folks some actually ask if they can eat this craft metal!)
