Shown at right is the cover of an 8 pages (4 leafs) Catalogue / brochure of Reeves & Sons
 
The Catalogue lists colors, boxes, papers, pencils,etc .
It is approximately 7 1/2 x 4 inches for each page.
 
It is printed on fine wove paper folded & sewn in center .
The paper has partial watermark of "Fellows 1828"
 
John Fellows, hand-made wove paper, made at Eynsford Mill,
on the River Darent, in north Kent, England

Only a few copies this old are known to exist* making this one of the rarest and most valuable items in our collection.

    Overall this rare catalog/ brochure in very good condition for age and un restored condition.
    The Catalogue consists of 8 pages: two sheets folded and sewn together
    Condition: There is light overall light toning slightly darker on some edges. Some foxing here and there.
    There are a few small tears and light folds from handling.

It is a single page flyer (also known as a broadside)
Cataloging art materials available from Thomas Reeves & Son (W J Reeves)
 
It lists colors, boxes, papers, pencils,etc .
 
Broadsides were used as advertisements, posters, Catalogue and handouts
 
This is one of the oldest known to exist.

Winsor & Newton Watercolor 72 color sample Book from around the early 1890's

This book has 72 hand painted Winsor Newton watercolor swatches on 3 pages each with 24 colors. Each is labeled with color name. There are hand written notations throughout, including "Store 119" on the inside front cover.

This book is approximately 7 1/4 " x 4 7/8 " hard bound.. In condition shown: Many colors are amazingly bright for the age ( note photography and computer screens do not give justice the actual subtile colors) only a few colors have faded in its 100+ years of aging.Yellowing to pages, pages are brittle and a bit loose rebound with tape repairs. Some damage to cover.There is toning soiling,stains and discoloration Very nice condition considering the age of this.

This book has hand painted Winsor Newton graduated washes of watercolor swatches for a total of 96 colors on 4 pages. Each is labeled with color name.
 
There is an ex libris label for George Carlson & notations on inside front cover,including "# 351" (Store?) on the inside front cover.
 
This book is approximately 7 5/8 " x 5 1/4 " hard bound..
In condition shown: Many colors are amazingly bright for the age
( note photography and computer screens do not give justice the actual subtile colors)

This 164+ year old version of the Winsor Newton catalog Lists watercolor supplies , paint, paper & brushes available to artists of the time.
See surviving paint blocks ,palette and tools from the 1800's below
 
 
The date of this version of their catalog is derived
from page 3 below. They began producing moist paint in 1832
and sixteen years later would be 1848, when the catalog was written.
 
They may have printed the same catalog version for several years in the back of art books
they produced where this one was found.

It shows all manner of supplies for painting & drawing:Watercolor & Oil Paint, Brushes, Canvas, Palette, Easels, Boxed Sets and more- a great piece of history and a must for antique art supply collectors.
The complete catalog is copiously illustrated.
 
In the front there is an illustrated 80 page book on Portrait Painting in watercolors by Merrifield with several early color plates.
 
This book is approximately 7 " x 4 3/24 Softbound.. In condition shown: Yellowing to pages, some pages a bit loose , soiling,stains and discoloration .There is an abrasion to the lower left of the book which does not impact content. cover and spine has smalls tears. And there is a signature on the cover. But is nice condition considering the age of this window to the past.
